The Sutter Buttes, a unique cluster of volcanoes isolated in the midst of the Sacramento Valley, was the sacred "Middle Mountain" of the valley Indian tribes. The Middle Mountain Foundation (MMF), a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, was formed in 1989 as an outgrowth of Sutter Buttes Naturalists, originally founded by Walt and Rebecca Anderson. The articles of incorporation stated that the specific purposes of the foundation were to "educate the general public in the relevance and importance to society of natural and cultural resources and to encourage preservation, understanding, and good stewardship of such resources." The Sutter Buttes formed the actual foundation of such education and preservation efforts.

The DIABETES SOCIETY of Yuba Sutter

The Diabetes Society of Yuba Sutter, at its June 5th board meeting, voted to donate $2000 to the Camp McCumber Diabetes Camp for children. Camp McCumber is a diabetes camp that each year, provides up to 100 children with diabetes a place to go and associate with peers that have diabetes.

The camp provides diabetic children with a week long camp aimed at teaching healthy eating, and general diabetes facts to children effected by the disease. Children are provided all of the opportunities that any summer camp provides but with a staff of nurses and doctors to aid in the care of the diabetic attendees. Counselors at the camp are also diabetics and previous camp members.

"On several occasions, members from the Punjabi-American Heritage Society have been asked about the activities of our organization. Of course, one of the things we are most known for is our annual Punjabi-American Festival held each year in May at the Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds. Since 1992, our members have organized ten colorful and lively festivals (Mela). Each year the Mela’s bring more than 15,000 visitors to Yuba City from throughout the North State and as far away as Canada and England. And, proceeds from ticket sales, after costs, go to support many important community activities as well as National and International causes." More...
